Mercedes Alonso attended Rutgers University where she received her Masters of Social Work as well as a certificate in the field of Gender Violence. She has over 10 years of clinical experience working with groups, families and individuals in diverse settings including inpatient, outpatient, violence intervention, non-profit and child welfare. Mercedes has spent years in her professional role supporting family units and parents through the entire child welfare continuum to include the development of parenting skills, building family strengths/protective capacities, managing conflict, communication difficulties, co-parenting and addressing gender violence to include anger management/emotional regulation.

In her previous role, Mercedes acted in the capacities of both facilitator and trainer, educating over 300 justice-involved males and fathers around self-awareness, substance abuse, male socialization, and healthy relationships by teaching men how to be positive role models.

Mercedes is bilingual (English/Spanish) and is passionate about helping individuals and families deal with multicultural, immigration and acculturation challenges and incorporates this into her approach when applicable.

Her core focus is person-centered and rooted in a holistic approach; she integrates a blend of therapeutic approaches to include mindfulness, strength-based, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and solution focused. Mercedes is currently pursing her certification in yoga and hopes to incorporate it in her clinical approach.
