Dr. Peter Robbins received his B.A. in Psychology from Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y. He then attended Medical School at Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons, graduating in 1982. His residency in Adult Psychiatry and Fellowship in Child and Adult Psychiatry were both at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center, Westchester Division in White Plains, N.Y. In 1987, he moved to the Northern Virginia area and has worked in In-Patient, Day Treatment, and Out-patient settings. His focus on Out-Patient Psychiatry has been exclusive since 1990.
Dr. Robbins works with patients and their families to provide Diagnostic Evaluations, Psychotherapy and Psychopharmacology services. He works with children, adolescents and adults, but not with geriatric patients. He also provides second opinion consultations for patients treated by outside therapists and psychiatrists in need of advice about complex cases and treatment dilemmas.
He has special experience and interest in working with patients with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Anxiety and Mood Disorders. He refers to Fairfax, Dominion and Children’s Hospital for patients in need of in-patient care. He refers to both the Kellar Center in Fairfax and Dominion Hospital’s Day Treatment Programs for patients in need of more intensive treatment.
Washingtonian Magazine’s Best Doctors List has named Dr. Robbins many times, as well as Northern Virginia Magazine’s Best Doctors Lists. He teaches and supervises at Georgetown University in the Child Psychiatry Fellowship Program. He was formerly the Managing Partner of the Child and Family Counseling Group for 20 years.
